10 Native-Proud Images From White House Tribal Nations Conference
Youth, elders and leaders from across Turtle Island converged on what some said could be the last White House Tribal Nations Conference (WHTNC). Overheard more than once, away from the podium was the thought that this would certainly be the final conference if Donald Trump is elected president.
At the WHTNC, President Barack Obama was gifted a blanket and adorned with a traditional hat by NCAI President Brian Cladoosby in honor of his efforts to strengthen government to government relations with Native Nations.
The Standing Rock Sioux and those that stand against the Dakota Access Pipeline were a theme throughout the day. President Obama addressed the topic as well in his speech when he stated, “I know that many of you have come together across tribes and across the country to support the community at Standing Rock. And together, you’re making your voices heard.”

Well represented were the Native Youth, many wearing traditional regalia. Generation Indigenous was on hand and one of the highlights of the day was the Native youth panel. The panel elicited laughter and applause and speakers garnered a standing ovation.
