Native Representations in Video Games
Elizabeth Lameman (née Dillon) is an Irish, Anishinaabe, and Métis writer who looks at indigenous representations in video games and other digital media. She is also the writer and co-creator of The West Was Lost, an online steampunk comic that was featured prominently at the imagineNATIVE 2010 Film and Media Arts Festival.
Here's a short film she's made about Native characters in console games, from the still-unbelievable Custer's Revenge (Atari 2600, 1982) to more enlightened fare such as Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath (XBox, 2005) and Red Dead Redemption (Playstation 3 and XBox 360, 2010).
