Nominate An Endangered Native American Site Today
Is there a site you think should be on the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places? Nominate it today. From now through March 2, 2015, the National Trust for Historic Preservation is accepting nominations for its annual list.
“Historic places are a tangible reminder of who we are as a nation,” said Stephanie Meeks, president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, in a statement. “For over 25 years, the National Trust’s list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places has helped shine a spotlight on threatened historic places throughout the nation, helping not only to preserve these places, but also galvanizing local support for the preservation of other unique, irreplaceable treasures that make our nation and local communities special.”
Since 1988, more than 250 one-of-a-kind places have been identified on the list—from urban districts and rural landscapes to Native American landmarks sports arenas.
As the trust points out, the places on the list do not need to be famous, but they must be significant in a cultural context, illustrate important issues in preservation and have a need for immediate action to reverse serious threats.

Bear Butte, a sacred site to as many as 17 tribes in South Dakota, and the Greater Chaco Landscape were placed on the list in 2011. Let’s get some more Native sites on the list in 2015.
