Oklahoma College Committed to Indian Students
To recognize Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s commitment to Native American students, tribal leaders from the Choctaw and Chickasaw nations presented university president Larry Minks with a plaque on Friday, February 10.
“The university’s commitment to Native American students could not be stronger, and that is only possible because of the outstanding support of the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes. Time after time, they have stepped up to partner with Southeastern to establish academic support programs, scholarships, or help fund improved facilities. It’s just a tremendous partnership and one of which we are very proud,” Minks said when he accepted the plaque.
He also noted that Native students represent 30 percent of the university’s enrollment.
The Choctaw Nation helped to improve campus facilities recently with a donation of $386,000 to improve Montgomery Auditorium on the Southeastern campus. According to a release, the money will go toward new lighting and theatrical rigging systems.
