RezArtX’s Rezilience Concert and Marketplace: Contemporary Native Culture in Albuquerque
Indigenous resilience, culture and art will be celebrated with an expanded line-up of new partner organizations from across the southwest at the second annual Rezilience Indigenous Arts Experience - RezArtX - on April 29-30. This two-day festival, concert and marketplace -- and even a 5K and 10K run -- will take place at and around the National Hispanic Cultural Center located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The Rezilience VOICE Concert
On April 29, doors will open at 6:30 pm at the Journal Theatre inside the center for a concert with a diverse roster of dynamic Indigenous performers offering both traditional and contemporary styles.
The VOICE Concert is the big event at REZILIENCE.
The big event, the VOICE Concert at Rezilience will be held from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm on Saturday April 29th. Dine’ artist Ehren Natay will open the concert with prayer, poem and song.
The featured performer at REZILIENCE is the Leela Gilday Band (Folk/Rock), a multiple award winning Dene performer based out of Yellowknife, NWT.

A passionate performer with a gutsy voice and open stage presence, she brings a full band for a couple of gigs she will be performing in New Mexico.
Concert host and MC will be rapper Def-i, Christopher Mike-Bidtah from Shiprock, Def-i is having a very busy spring with touring and dropping his new album, 'Arrow Rhymanics.' Special guests will be the Delbert Anderson Trio, a modern jazz group that has performed with Def-i previously as “DDAT”, and will be the house band. Further performances include hip hop trio Shining Soul from Phoenix, Arizona, dubbed Arizona’s ‘Public Enemy’ which includes MC Liaizon from Tohono O'odham Nation, MC Bronze Candidate and DJ Reflekshin. Lindy Vision is an Indie-electronic-new wave-synth pop act comprised of three sisters from Albuquerque. Critics have compared them to the incredibly popular K-Pop (Korean and Japanese pop music by young women.)
Others include acoustic rock artist Raye Zaragoza (Pima from Southern California), whose song about Standing Rock, In The River, created a social media buzz. Renata Yazzie (Piano/Songs in Navajo), an articulate young performer who plays and Indigenizes classical music and covers other Native composers.
Outside of the concert, an additional program of music, dance and performance is offered with folk/rock artists Jacoby Salazar and Tetrafy, traditional dancers the Zuni Olla Maidens, traditional song and storytelling by Lisa Muswagon and hip hop artists Isaiah Gutierrez and HELLnBACK.

With such offerings at Rezilience to include interactive art installations, workshops, film screenings, a fashion show, poetry and music, and a marketplace from 9am to 6pm, RezArtX executive director Warren Montoya says, “the Exchange Marketplace is a great opportunity for Indigenous artisans and businesses from our communities to connect with more diverse crowds.”

Fashion Shows
Loren Aragon of ACONAV Fashions and Design will represent with a fashion show and NDNcraft.com is producing a new “TRADISH” fashion show with designers Marisa Mike, Leah Mata, Darylene Martin and Sharona Seymour.
Zine Project
SITE Santa Fe will highlight a zine project by Native American students from Santa Fe Indian School and artist Raven Chacon (Dine’). The Heard Museum based in Phoenix, Arizona will produce a drop-in printmaking workshop with master printmaker Jacob Meders (Mechoopda Maidu) and renowned textile artist Melissa Cody (Dine’).
Poetry Slam
MC’ed by Carlos Contreras, the Expresion venue will host a national poetry slam event with Albuquerque Poet Laureates Jessica Helen Lopez and Hakim Bellamy, as well as some dynamic student poets. Heard Museum Director of Community Engagement Marcus Monenerkit (Comanche) said, “We are thrilled to support this festival for the second year in a row. As an arts community, we need to collaborate and hold space to garner more awareness about who Indigenous people are today.”
Art Collaboration
Harwood Art Center and lead artist Jodie Herrera will invite attendees to contribute to an art collaboration rooted in examining what is currently missing in our community/ies. Titled Missing Persons?, these works will become an installation at Rezilience and be featured in the annual social justice exhibition at Harwood Art Center in September.
