The body of a 30-year-old Mexican woman was found on the reservation, the Border Patrol said. The agency and tribal police were investigating. The victim, whose name was not immediately released, is believed to be the 35th person to die in the Arizona desert of heat-related exposure this fiscal year. The Border Patrol reported two men asked a janitor at the Topawa High School for help July 31, after leaving two women who had collapsed. The woman and another who was 25 years old, both from Tulancingo, Mexico, were among seven people, including a smuggler, who crossed into Arizona on July 29, the men said. Border Patrol agents began searching for the women Tuesday afternoon and found both about four hours later. The younger woman, who was unconscious, was with the dead woman about three miles south of the town of Little Tucson. The survivor was taken to the Indian Health Services facility in Sells for treatment. The men told Border Patrol agents that the smuggler abandoned them after the group ran out of water.
