Two This Week From Indian Country Today Covers Compete in Amazon.com Contest
Time to vote!
Covers from two issues of This Week from Indian Country Today (the print version of this website) are competing in Amazon.com's Best Cover of the Year contest, against the likes of Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Vanity Fair, and Wired. This is a great opportunity to help raise the visibility not just of our publication, but of Indian country in general.
The images relate to two important stories of vastly different tone. The one nominated in the News & Politics category comes from our February 23, 2011 issue, and takes on the tragic story of the fatal shooting of woodcarver John T. Williams with the statement "It's not a crime to be Native." The other cover, from our September 28, 2011 issue, elaborates on a story about technology and tribal languages; its depiction of a partially pixilated Sequoyah, drawn by artist Roy Boney, is captioned "How the Cherokee syllabary went from parchment to iPad."
