Indigenous everything. A list of Indigenous Peoples Day events.
You know that infamous meme with the person by the copy machine and a paper flies to the side? It says, "Move, I'm Indigenous." That meme (along with John Trudell's photo from "Smoke Signals") pop up every second Monday in October and just makes the day grander to be an Indigenous person.
It's also a day (or a weekend) of more regalia, moccasins, ribbon skirts, grandma scarves, huge earrings, singing, gossiping, laughing, and Native kids running around. So much more.
Indian Country celebrates the day across the U.S. with festivals, parades, film screenings, and more. So our news organization compiled a list of happenings taking place near you — on Indigenous lands.
And if you missed it, Indian Country Today also created a map that shows you the 11 states and 129 cities that recognize Indigenous Peoples Day. The list of universities and colleges changing the holiday name continues to grow too.
