‘There's just gonna be no stopping my sister’
Deb Haaland’s historic appointment to lead the U.S. Department of Interior was celebrated Monday in Indian Country, and beyond.
Haaland was confirmed for her new role by a 51-40 Senate vote.
Many took to social media to share their excitement. Haaland even made an appearance in NDN Collective’s social media watch party. She was introduced by her close friend Rep. Sharice Davids.
"I promise I will be fierce for everyone, for public lands, and for all of our communities,” Haaland said. “Thank you all so much. Again, I love every single one of you."

Haaland’s two sisters, Denise Kirksey and Zoe Magee, joined a Facebook watch party hosted by Native Organizers Alliance, IllumiNative, and NDN Collective crying tears of joy.
