HR 1242 Resilience Project

Don Victor Mooney, of Queens, and President of HR 1242 Resilience Project, presented a kente cloth to Ms. Shawn Barbano, Executive Assistant to Mr. Ray Halbritter of the Oneida Indian Nation to recognize their historic contribution in aiding enslaved Africans during slavery.

“As we commemorate 400 years of first enslaved Africans arriving in the English colonies during 1619, we can’t ignore the contributions that Native Americans during this period in history," said Mooney.

Mooney was the first African-American to row from Africa to New York. He’s also a descendant of the Carnarsee Tribe.
