The Associated Press reported February 24 that Coconino Community College, in Arizona, would receive a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program for distance learning.
Jonathan Adelstein, who oversees the USDA’s program, also recently announced a $2.2 million broadband project on the Havasupai Reservation, which is deep in the Grand Canyon.
“The only way to reach this remote tribe is an eight mile hike, a mule ride or by helicopter, so there was no broadband service available to the tribe,” says the Rural Development website.
