The most likely scenario of when the Nez Perce tribes first learned of the Holy Bible, or as they called it-”The Book Of Heaven,” occurred in 1805. It was the year, that Lewis & Clark’s Corp of Discovery, stumbled half-starving out of the Bitterroot mountains and into the land of the Nez Perce. The tribes took in the explorers, feeding them and nursing them back to health. They also showed the explorers how to burn out the heart of tree’s and use them for a dugout canoe’s for their journey westward.
