LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) – The Nez Perce Tribal Police in northern Idaho have purchased 10 Dodge Durangos using part of a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The purchase used about a third of the $911,000 grant awarded by the justice department’s Community Oriented Policing program in 2005.
Police Chief Leslie Hendrick said patrol officers need vehicles that can go from the highway to dirt roads.
Hendrick said grant money also paid for three radio towers across the Nez Perce Reservation to help officers communicate in the region’s canyons and hilltops.
