Kevin Abourezk

Kevin Abourezk is an award-winning journalist who has spent his 26-year career documenting the accomplishments and tragedies of Indigenous people. In 2023, he joined ICT as its deputy managing editor. He is the winner of the Associated Press’s Best Enterprise Story Award in 2006, the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism and a Heartland Emmy Award for his short documentary “Return of the Pawnees.” A citizen of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Abourezk hosts a podcast called Reconciliation Rising featuring Native and non-Native people working to heal historical trauma. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of South Dakota and a Master of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
