Leonard Peltier, who was convicted for the 1975 killing of two FBI agents in South Dakota, had a parole hearing on Monday. Now at age 75, he is in poor health. ICT’s Amelia Schafer tells us more.

  • In Oregon, the federal government claims no responsibility for a BIA office who raped a woman while on duty. BIA Indian Affairs police officer Dana Michael Bullcoming pled guilty of raping a woman, who called for help. A government attorney claimed the U.S. bears no responsibility for the officer’s action, because he didn’t rapid the woman on behalf of the U.S. government.
  • A bid to stop a $10 billion energy transmission line was dismissed. Tribe and environmentalist sought to protect the historic, cultural and religious significance of Arizona’s San Pedro Valley. Judge Jennifer Zips ruled that the plaintiffs were years too late, and that the Bureau of Land Management had fulfilled its obligation to identify historic sites for the project.
  • Standing Rock tribal citizen Kylie Irving is shining bright in the NBA finals. Irvine’s team, the Dallas Mavericks face the Boston Celtics for the league title. Irving has been quite visible in sharing his culture, by wearing moccasin-styled sneakers and burning sage before games.
