Tribal Attorney Tony Cohen created the video “Our Sovereignty’s Not For Sale,” which “documents a crucial period in the struggle of California Indian Tribes to achieve economic self-sufficiency through the development of casinos.”
Cohen, senior member of Clement, Fitzpatrick & Kenworthy Incorporated, heads the firm’s Indian law section, which is largely concentrated on tribal sovereignty, internal self-governance and regulation, and entry into intergovernmental agreements, including tribal-state compacts pertaining to tribal gaming. In addition to other clients, Cohen currently represents three northern California tribes and a tribal consortium health clinic.
The video chronicles the complex and difficult legal and political struggle among the tribes and between the tribes, the federal government and the state of California.
