Two school districts are in the market for new mascots. At a hearing Tuesday, the Department of Public Instruction ordered the Osseo-Fairchild School District to drop its “Chieftain” logo, the first time a new state law banning race-based logos had been enforced. In Kewaunee, the school district had a hearing scheduled for Wednesday but decided to eliminate its American Indian mascot without waiting for a decision.
