A shared interest in turtles – a traditional American Indian symbol – brought artists Doug and Rachel Limòn together. The reptile is the centerpiece of many of the Limòns’ art pieces and greeting card business that celebrate their American Indian heritage. The White Bear Lake couple believes it’s no coincidence their youngest son, Gavino, was born with a turtle-shaped birthmark on his cheek. And in a baptism/Indian naming ceremony, their little boy was given the name mikinaak — the Ojibwe word for turtle.
