The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) is inviting young Canadians ages 12 to 17 to design a flag “the represents the richness and diversity of all of Canada’s Aboriginal Peoples, and which illustrates what National Aboriginal Day means to them personally,” for its fifth Aboriginal Day Live flag contest.
APTN’s 2011 Aboriginal Day Live event will include a televised concert on June 18 featuring live performances by some of Canada’s top aboriginal artists, the network said in a release.
The network will hoist the winner’s flag above its Winnipeg headquarters and fly the winner and a parent or guardian to the city to participate in the celebrations and receive his or her prize of $500. If the design is part of a school project, the school will receive $750 toward educational materials, APTN said.
“Entries should reflect the rich diversity of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples in Canada,” APTN said. Entries are due at APTN’s Winnipeg headquarters by midnight Eastern Time on May 13.
