BROWNING, Mont. – The Blackfeet Nation recently went live with a completely new Web site featuring numerous new features and sections.
In addition to constantly updated tribal and local news and information, the site will provide emergency announcements, tribal council reports, event calendar, downloadable videos, photo galleries where visitors can upload pictures to share with the community, a large archive of government documents, as well as numerous culturally-significant sections. There is also a section called “Tribal Heroes” that each week showcases a member whose accomplishments serve as a role model to others.
“We are doing all we can with the new Web site to quickly establish it as the hub of our community,” said Willie A. Sharp Jr., tribal chairman, “We expect it to be the place everyone comes every day to find out what’s happening around the reservation, as well as what’s going on in government, tribal organizations, and everyday life. We have a great many ideas for additional features, as well, and would like to hear comments from community members to help us make this the best possible Web site to serve you and to get you involved.”
The site was built on sophisticated technologies to enable easy addition of new features. Some of the ideas under consideration include: Free classifieds, self-inputted Blackfeet member directory (a Facebook-type service just for tribal and community members so people can find each other easily), online newspaper, free online advertising for local businesses, community forums and message boards, and free member and community blogs.
