Nicholas H. Fonseca was recently re-elected to a three-year term as chairman of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians.

Fonseca has been chairman for 15 years, and a member of the tribal council for 16.

During the tribal elections for the tribal council, four of the seven seats were with Bernie Gonzales the only newly elected member. Those re-elected include: Fonseca, Hermo Olanio and Regina Cuellar.

They join Allan Campbell, Veronica Holmes, and Malissa Tayaba.

The federally recognized tribe located in Placerville, California saw the opening of its Red Hawk Casino in 2008 – one of the most notable steps during Fonseca’s tenure.

“I am proud to serve my tribe and honored to be chairman,” Fonseca said following being elected by the tribal council.
