CHEYENNE RIVER, S.D. – Four Bands Community Fund Inc. (FBCF) has issued its first new Loan for 2003. Local artisan Lena Flying By was the recipient of a micro loan to start her home based business “Bear Eagle Products.” Lena was born and raised in the Eagle Butte S.D. area and over the years has acquired the skills necessary to create beautiful beadwork. Her family was instrumental in teaching and supporting her during this time and now she is proficient in her art.
Although Lena produces various products her main focus is on making adult women’s and children’s moccasins. She enjoys using unique designs to give her customers that one of a kind item but she will also match the design to fit the needs of each customer. It is exciting to see Lena working hard to establish her business and utilize the FBCF Organization for support and technical assistance to ensure business success.
Lena is also on the list of members as an Artist/ Producer for Made on the Rez Mercantile Retail Outlet and the madeontherez.com Web site. She will be receiving technical assistance in marketing and other areas through support from Made on the Rez Mercantile staff and membership.
Four Bands Community Fund Inc. is designed to provide services to the residents of the Cheyenne River Reservation which include Personal Finance Training, CREATE (Cheyenne River Entrepreneurial Assistance Training and Education) Program, Made on the Rez Mercantile Retail Outlet for Artist / Producers & LATA (Loan and Technical Assistance). With the addition of new staff in the last quarter of 2002 the Organization has been growing at a tremendous rate and they have all dedicated themselves to the vision and mission of the organization.
