A North Carolina congressman said yesterday that a bill to grant federal recognition to the Lumbee Indian tribe is heading toward a vote in the full House. U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre, D-7th, said that the recognition bill he sponsored could be voted on within 30 days. Recognition would provide the tribe with millions of dollars for housing, education, health care and economic development.
