A Republican has delayed the final passage of a bill that would force schools to drop American Indian logos or face fines. Under that bill, a resident could complain to the state about a race-based school nickname, logo or mascot. The state superintendent will then look into it and if discrimination is found, the superintendent has to order the school board to stop. Boards that don’t remove the offensive logo, nickname or mascot would face daily forfeitures ranging from $100 to $1,000.
