Seven Navajos will help carry the Olympic torch as it crosses the Navajo Reservation en route to Salt Lake City. The tribe announced Oct. 4 that the torch will be borne through Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park on Feb. 4, the day it first will reach neighboring Utah. The Navajo runners are to be Jack Anderson of Gallup, N.M.; New Mexico clothing designer Virginia Yazzie-Ballenger; Rosie Dayzie of Monument Valley, Utah, and Shonto, Ariz.; artist Elmer Charles Yazzie; Brandon Leslie of Gallup, codetalker Wilfred E. Billey of Farmington, N.M.; and Kathy Holtsoi, a legal adviser to the Navajo Nation Council in Window Rock.
