New York’s Shinnecock Indians are downplaying reports that a newly formed Connecticut group is opposing their bid for federal recognition.
Several news reports Wednesday said the Connecticut Coalition for Gaming Jobs contends the Shinnecock tribe has failed to meet all the criterion for federal recognition. The Southampton-based tribe was notified last month it would receive federal recognition following a lengthy review process that ends next week.
