The tribal Fire Department is among nine volunteer fire departments in western Nevada receiving some $200,000 in federal grants to help the Bureau of Land Management snuff out wildland fire in their early stages. It will receive $10,000. The grants to rural departments are part of a nationwide program to help mitigate the impacts of severe wildfires on rural communities. They can be used to enhance firefighting capabilities and reduce hazardous fuel loads. ‘We’re all in this together,’ said John Singlaub, field office manager for the BLM in Carson City. ‘Helping fund new equipment increases their capabilities and helps us meet our common goals of hitting wildland fires hard and keeping them small.’
