SALT RIVER PIMA-MARICOPA INDIAN COMMUNITY, ARIZ. ? More than 200 people attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a $21 million state-of-the-art junior high school designed to serve 525 children here.

Gaming revenues from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa tribe’s successful casino will fund the new school scheduled for completion in January 2004.

Special guest Pulitzer Prize-winning author N. Scott Momaday encouraged children to pursue education while staying in touch with their tribal identity. “Always remain true to who you are. Don’t lose your Native spirit. It’s the best thing that you have,” Momaday said.
