WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tim Johnson, D-S.D., announced that funding secured for South Dakota as part of the economic recovery package is already moving to local communities in South Dakota. The state will receive $24.4 million in weatherization funding and $23.7 million in funding for the state energy program. The funding totals $48.1 million in funding from the Department of Energy.
“I am pleased that this economic stimulus funding is rapidly moving to communities across our state,” Johnson said. “Energy prices have been painful this year, and this funding will help bring down home heating costs at a time when many families have been hard hit this season. Weatherizing our homes and businesses will help conserve energy and save money in the long run.”
Resources from the stimulus package are continuing to help local communities across South Dakota. Funding has already been distributed to local housing commissions to improve our communities and to cities and towns to continue the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. Additional resources from the legislation will continue to be distributed in the weeks ahead.
The stimulus package recently signed by President Barack Obama is focused on tax cuts for the middle class, infrastructure investments and job creation. This funding is a prime example of the kind of resources the legislation provides to help improve communities while advancing South Dakota’s economy.
