A former tribal security chief turned preacher pleaded not guilty Tuesday to killing three people in Rancho Mirage in 1981. James “Jimmy” Hughes appeared in Riverside County Superior Court in Indio and waived a reading of the complaint against him. Dressed in an orange jumpsuit, he only said two words during the brief proceeding.
