Officials on the reservation say deer hunting by tribal members on the reservation would begin Oct. 1 rather than Oct. 21 as previously announced. Tribal deer seasons at White Earth and other reservations are not required to coincide with state seasons, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources noted. The DNR said, however, the short notice given for the change in the White Earth opening could present a safety issue if the public is not aware that the White Earth big game season was open.
