Four days of events will mark the 50th anniversary of the 1973 occupation of Wounded Knee in South Dakota.
The occupation — the fourth in a series of takeovers by American Indian Movement leaders — started Feb. 27, 1973, and continued 71 days until a cease-fire agreement was reached on May 8, 1973.

The creation of KILI Radio, known as the Voice of the Lakota Nation, grew out of the occupation at Wounded Knee and began operating in 1983.
