Since 1984, Cherokee cyclists have participated in the Remember the Removal Bike Ride. It follows Trail of Tears their ancestors were forced to walk in 1838 and 1839. Faith Springwater says it helped her connect with her heritage. ICT’s Stewart Huntington has this interview.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to the Gila River Indian Community last week marked the first time a sitting president or vice president has ever visited the tribal nation located near Phoenix, Arizona.

The Haines Borough Government and the Chilkoot Indian Association collaborated to honor the culture of the community with street signs in the Tlingit language. Mayor Douglas Olerud and Tribal Administrator of the Chilkoot Indian Association Harriet Brouillette collaborated on this Alaska project.

The California independent state auditor has reported that California State University schools have nearly 700,000 Native remains and objects. These findings come after a months-long review requested by Assemblymember James Ramos and the state’s Joint Committee on Legislative Audit.

Indigenous points of view are being considered for the future of many Washington state monuments. The state Historical Society is re-evaluating markers it previously placed, saying they “exclusively honor and memorialize the histories of white settlers.”
