Yale historian Ned Blackhawk is envisioning American history through a new lens that puts Native peoples at the center of the narrative. This month he won the prestigious National Book Award for his work, “The Rediscovery of America.” Stewart Huntington caught up with Professor Blackhawk from his office on the Yale campus.

More than 300 tribal leaders were at the White House Tribal Nations Summit this week. ICT Editor Jourdan Bennett-Begaye has this report.

Questions are being raised about a state-led investigation into the history of Indian Boarding Schools there. The report from the state historical society detailed the era’s trauma and found that dozens of students died at the institutions. The Denver American Indian Commission says the investigation is incomplete and was conducted without proper representation of Native scholars and lay people.
