Across the country, tribes are gaining more input in land use decisions under co-management pacts. The idea is spreading among federal and state agencies. Now, a central database of these pacts makes it easier for tribes to find best practices. ICT’s Stewart Huntington has more.

The sounds of Indigenous drums and singing will soon grace the stage at the Academy Awards.

Osage songwriter Scott George and the drum group, the Osage Singers, will perform their Oscar-nominated song from the film Killers of the Flower Moon at the ceremony this weekend. Shirley Sneve and Sandra Schulman caught up with George recently.

  • The Heard Museum hosted its 66th Annual American Indian Fair and Market this past weekend. The market boasts more than 600 artists from all over Indian Country who came to Phoenix for the two-day event.
  • Attu is one of the Alaskan islands closest to Russia. it was the site of the farthest ancestral repatriation in U.S. history, when Indigenous islander remains were returned from the Smithsonian Institution– almost 8,000 miles away. ICT’s Joaqlin Estus reports.
  • One of the largest land birds in North America could be making its way back to the Pacific Northwest. Condors, or New World Vultures have not been spotted in the Columbia River basin in over 160 years. The Nez Perce Tribe is working to change that.
  • There is controversy brewing over the Rosebud Sioux Tribe’s flag displayed in the South Dakota state capitol. ICT’s Shirley Sneve spoke with state Sen. Shawn Bordeaux. Gov. Kristi Noem’s office told ICT the flag will continue to be displayed. Her office said it reached out to Rosebud officials to offer to work towards solutions to challenges.
