  • In California, state lawmakers are assessing a tool to address the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous people. The Feather Alert was passed into law in 2022, and is similar to the Amber Alert. Families, advocates and law enforcement told state lawmakers last week that while it has delivered positive results, there are still some wrinkles that need to be addressed.
  • More than 100 community members gathered in a downtown Portland, Oregon park for an Indigenous-led ceremony to show support to Palestine.
  • Scientists in Alaska have discovered new links in the relationship of wooly mammoths and Alaska Native people. Researchers have traced the travels of a 14,000-year-old wooly mammoth nicknamed Elma.
  • The war between Ukraine and Russia is believed to be affecting what we know about climate change. A team of international scientists found that by Russia excluding its data from research, it is increasing environmental variables.
  • Great basin tribes in Nevada are lobbying the federal government to designate nearly 40-square miles as Bahsahwahbee National Monument. This includes the Ely Shoshone, Duckwater Shoshone And the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute. This site is the final resting place of their ancestors who were slain in an 1800s massacre.
