Round four of the Child and Family Services Reviews (CFSRs) is about to begin. We are supporting the Children’s Bureau with disseminating the Fact Sheet for Tribal Child Welfare Officials to invite tribal involvement and partnership in the CFSRs.

During the Child and Family Services Reviews, the Children’s Bureau, working along with states, in partnership with community partners and tribes, considers each state’s performance in areas specified in law and regulation. The reviews also provide states an opportunity to consider and critically analyze evidence of disparities in decision-making processes, programs, and policies that may contribute to inequity in services and outcomes for people of color and others who have been historically underserved, marginalized, and adversely affected by persistent poverty and inequality.

The fact sheet describes the Child and Family Services Reviews and how tribal child welfare officials can get involved. Tribal involvement and partnership in the process are critical to a full understanding of the experiences of people affected by the child welfare system. Involvement in the CFSRs may include representation from local tribes; local and statewide tribal organizations, such as urban service centers; local chapters of national organizations addressing tribal issues; and tribal child-placing agencies or social services.

JBS International, Inc., manages the Child Welfare Reviews Project (CWRP) for the Children’s Bureau, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. CWRP provides support to the Children’s Bureau in administering the Child and Family Services Reviews.
