On Monday, March 28th, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a tribal-state Gaming Compact between the State of California and the Santa Rosa Rancheria Tachi Yokut Tribe. The compact affirms the tribe’s dedicated partnership and government-to-government relationship with the State.

“The Santa Rosa Rancheria Tachi Yokut Tribe is grateful to Governor Newsom for making this agreement possible. The compact creates an economic environment that promotes tribal self-sufficiency and allows contributions to other tribes, the community, and local government,” said Santa Rosa Rancheria Tachi Yokut Chairman Leo Sisco.

The compact respects the interest of both parties in improving the quality of life for the tribe’s members. Through the compact, the Santa Rosa Rancheria Tachi Yokut Tribe reaffirms its commitment to meaningful patron and employee protections and to provide a thorough environmental review for potential off-reservation impacts.

“Our compact was negotiated in good faith,” said Chairman Leo Sisco. “The compact will benefit our tribal members, our local community, and the state of California as a whole.”

The compact comes after a negotiation process that included compromises and careful consideration of requirements under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

“The compact will allow us to meet the needs of our members and continue our community engagement with civic organizations, fire and emergency medical services, and law enforcement,” said Chairman Sisco.

About Santa Rosa Rancheria Tachi Yokut Tribe

In 1934, the Santa Rosa Rancheria was established on 40 acres of desolate farmland in Lemoore, California, with members living below the poverty line. Today, because of the Tachi Palace Casino Resort, unemployment on the reservation has dropped below 25%, and most tribal members are now free from government assistance. Many former employees have gone on to successful positions elsewhere in the community and are positive role models for the younger generation on the reservation. Gaming revenues allow the Tribe to rise to the challenges of reestablishing cultural identity, returning to economic self-sufficiency, and rebuilding the reservation.
