What is going on in Columbia is appalling, where an indigenous group known as the Awa were killed by armed groups in the region of Narino. As a result, they were forced to flee from their home territory and into the villages of Samaniego and Buenavista where they had found shelter there.
According to a report by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, 114 Awa in Buenavista are in poor health and some children are suffering malnutrition since their arrival. The Awa are the largest indigenous group in Narino and for the past two years, had the highest rate of forced displacements in Colombia. Something should be done to prevent the violence and forced displacement of the Awa.
