A newborn found dead in the Fort Kipp community dump will get a proper burial from tribal employees. Fort Peck Tribal Enterprises workers found the baby Sept. 5 while hauling away trash in Fork Kipp, on the reservation’s eastern edge. Authorities have so far declined to release any details, even the infant’s sex, and are asking for public assistance. The body was sent to the state crime lab in Missoula for an autopsy. The Fort Peck Tribal Executive Board voted to pay to claim the body when it is released and bury the baby. Tribal workers are providing clothing, and blankets and quilts for the burial, employee Catherine Spotted Bird said.
