In his article, ”Housing amendment would punish Cherokee over freedmen” [Vol. 27, Iss. 8], Jerry Reynolds said ”Cherokee freedmen are the descendants of slaves and free blacks kept by the Cherokee in the 19th century.”
What Mr. Reynolds should have said was ”Cherokee freedmen are the descendants of slaves, Cherokees, and free blacks kept by the Cherokee in the 19th century.” Many freedmen do have Cherokee blood.
