LUMMI, Wash. – The Lummi Indian Nation has a new chairman and officers.
Cliff Cultee, a second-year council member, was elected chairman Nov. 2. He succeeds Henry Cagey, who narrowly lost his bid for reelection to the council Oct. 30 to Steven Toby. Cultee is a commercial fisherman and a member of the Port of Bellingham Marina Advisory Committee.
Council members are elected by voters and serve three-year terms; in turn, council members elect officers for one-year terms.
Bernie Thomas was elected vice chairman; James Wilson, secretary; Cheryl Kinley-Sanders, treasurer.
Economic development and jobs creation, education, housing, and social programs for children and elders were among the concerns expressed by voters in the campaign.
