Last Mother’s Day weekend and the 28th Annual Mother’s Day Pow Wow and Indian Festival in Canton, GA saw another great turnout in 2017. The festival and pow wow showcased indigenous cultures to include Aztec Dancers Ricardo Garcia and family, music from award winning Arvel Bird and hoop dancer Cody Boettner.
The two-day pow wow also hosted men’s, women’s and children’s competition dancing and an honor dance for the late Chipa Wolfe, founder of Rolling Thunder Enterprises.
Grandmothers and mothers also received an honor dance, and many had their children and grandchildren at their side. Mothers from the audience were invited to participate in the celebration and joined with the dancers filling the arena.
“Many people look forward to the Mother’s day pow wow,” said coordinator Cecilia Wolfe. “Mothers love you, raise you. and guide you through life. To have one day to honor them is merely a fraction of what they deserve, but it’s a start.”
In addition to the celebrations, attendees enjoyed multiple vendors such as the beautiful handmade jewelry sold by Wild Sage, Traditional Hands, and Kelly Indian Jewelry that are all certified by The Indian Arts & Crafts Association (IACA) so that shoppers are confident they are purchasing authentically crafted merchandise.
