RED LAKE, Minn. – A record number of nearly 100 bikers, riders and passengers, participated in the Third Annual Ride Against Youth Suicide. The ride was held in conjunction with the Red Lake Nation Fair Celebration and Traditional Pow-Wow at Red Lake, Minn. Aug. 28. Organizers invited all motorcyclists to join in the ride to help battle this social issue.
Indians from several nations and non-Indians gathered in common support of youth. Riders lined up at the fire station for a short rally, with Bill May revving up the crowd. The bikers then led the annual parade. The rally’s slogan is “Red Lake Nation, Suicide Prevention. We Care. We Love. We Live.” The registration cost was $25 per bike and $10 for passengers.
“Our ride takes place cruising through beautiful areas. … Debs, Nebish, Blackduck and on the Rez,” May said before the ride. “We will see some of the most beautiful sights on the Red Lake reservation including ‘The Point.’”
After the ride ended, riders feasted on Red Lake walleye.
