Thurston County officials are pleading for state government to contribute $200,000 per year to help cover law enforcement costs in a county where a significant portion of the land cannot be taxed because it is held in trust on behalf of American Indian tribes. They acknowledge it will be tough to convince state lawmakers to give the county money during a lean budget year.
