Long snapper James Winchester is a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and center Creed Humphrey is from the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. Both helped Kansas City win back-to-back super bowl championships. Aside from the players, there was an Indigenous presence in Las Vegas. From protests to celebrations.
- Legislation has been introduced in the U.S. Congress to address federally run-boarding schools.
- The bill, co-sponsored by two Native American members, if passed into law, the act would establish a formal commission to investigate the federal government’s policies on Indian boarding schools.
- The University of Montana recently hosted a Nike N7 basketball game to pay tribute to Native American tradition and heritage. Each year, Nike calls for native artists to submit designs for its N7 clothing line. Blackfeet artist Lyle Omeasoo was selected to design this year’s logo.
