Foxwoods Resort Casino will celebrate its quarter century milestone this year with a Broadway series that kicks off in April.
The resort casino has hosted the occasional musical in its time, including Hello, Dolly!” in 1996 and “Chicago” in 2000, reported theday.
Now Fox Theater will showcase some of the most famous Broadway tours including the 1971 classic “Jesus Christ Superstar” in April, “42nd Street” in May, “Pippin” in June, and “Mamma Mia” in July. The resort intends to make Broadway shows a regular feature, booking a tour at least once every quarter — a response to numerous requests from patrons over many years. The resort anticipates the Broadway lineup will draw new visitors as well.
The resort is celebrating its 25 years of gaming in Connecticut in style. “We felt we wanted to give something different. We have two great, beautiful, intimate theaters — the Fox being the alma mater, the one that had Frank Sinatra when it first opened up. There’s a lot of history there. We felt that we wanted to make history with the Broadway series,” Monique Sebastian, Foxwoods’ vice president of entertainment and entertainment marketing, told theday.
Foxwoods is already considering what tours to book for fall and 2018, as many opportunities to secure a tour spot sell out 12 to 18 months in advance.
Tickets for all performances are on sale now at www.foxwoods.com, or through the Foxwoods Box Office at 800-200-2882 or Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000, or on site at any Foxwoods Box Office.

“Jesus Christ Superstar” — April 7-8
In 1970, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber recorded a concept album called, Jesus Christ Superstar – A Rock Opera. By 1971, the “Brown Album,” as it became known, reached #1 on the Billboard Chart, eventually becoming the biggest selling album of 1971 – all before anyone ever stepped on a stage to perform it. Within two years, “Jesus Christ Superstar” was up on Broadway, a film version soon followed, and Rice and Webber became household names. Guests can expect a full-on contemporary rock and roll spectacle, with a band and singers on stage throughout the performance, complete with epic lighting and thunderous sound. All tickets are just $20.
“42nd Street” — May 13-18
“42nd Street” tells the story of Peggy Sawyer, a starry-eyed young dancer who leaves her quiet Allentown home for New York City to audition for the new Broadway musical, Pretty Lady. When the legendary leading lady breaks her ankle, underdog Peggy takes over and, against all odds, becomes a star. With a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin, this sparkling production utilizes direction by Mark Bramble and choreography by Randy Skinner, the team who staged the 2001 Tony Award®-winning Best Musical Revival. Tickets are $55 and $35.
“Pippin” — June 15-18
“Pippin” is a high-flying, death-defying hit Broadway musical.
