A pair of Hispanic restauranteurs have cooked up controversy in Colorado over their plan to offer discounts to whites only one day next month.

It all started as a joke, but now Edgar Antillon and Miguel Jimenez, owners of Rubbin’ Buttz BBQ in the town of Milliken, will host a “White Appreciation Day” on June 11, Kevin Massey and Whitney Wild of NBC News affiliate 9 News reported.

“We have a whole month for Black History Month,” Antillon told 9 News. “We have a whole month for Hispanic Heritage Month, so we thought the least we could do was offer one day to appreciate white Americans.”

Antillon told 9 News that the discount is not meant to discriminate, but instead bring people together. He said he hopes this will open discussions and prompt people to think differently about race.

“Because all Americans should be celebrated!!” a sign on the restaurant’s window advertising the event reads.
