WASHINGTON — Two of the six Native candidates on Tuesday’s primary ballots in Idaho and Oregon will be advancing to November.

Idaho and Oregon were part of a string of states holding primary elections along with Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania.

The two states are home to a total of 14 federally recognized tribes: nine in Oregon and five in Idaho.

One Native individual ran for office in Idaho and five appeared on the Oregon ballot, according to the ICT and Advance Native Political Leadership’s database. There was a sixth Native candidate in Oregon who withdrew from the race earlier this year.

In Idaho, the lone Native candidate running for state legislature, Trish Carter-Goodheart, will advance to the general election in November after all the votes were tallied in Tuesday’s Democratic primary.

Oregon had two Native candidates running for U.S. Congress, two running for the state legislature and two running for county commission.

As of May 22, 2026 at 12:15 p.m. Pacific Time, Oregon had a 37.97 percent voter turnout rate, according to the Oregon Secretary of State. The state had 1,172,758 out of the 3,088,674 active registered voters.
