Run, don’t walk, to N7’s summer collection! N7 releases its latest line on Canada’s Indigenous Peoples Day as a way to celebrate powwow season and “Indigenous traditions while looking to the future.”

Designer and Jordan 3D Designer Lauren Thomas was inspired by her Mi’kmaq First Nations roots and having Halluci Nation, the electronic music DJ duo, play into her headphones.

“Each piece highlights vibrant colors, textures and stories through a contemporary take on traditional First Nations art forms. In many of the apparel pieces, Thomas created an abstract pattern that’s inspired by the petroglyphs found in her community,” stated the Nike press release. “The Air Max ’87 and Air Force 1 ’07 sneaker styles feature mixed materials in ombre colorways, incorporating stitching details reminiscent of traditional moccasin construction. And the ribbon laces serve as an homage to traditional ribbon shirts and powwow regalia.” — ICT

MIAMI, Oklahoma — Oklahoma Turnpike Authority Executive Director Joe Echelle stood before 31 tribal leaders on Tuesday to make his case for adding tribal members to the state’s PlatePay cashless toll system.

Gov. Kevin Stitt has previously said he would like all of the tribal tag compacts to work the same as the Choctaw and Chickasaw compacts, meaning no tribe would operate its own tag agency. Echelle presented a slightly different argument during a panel discussion before the United Indian Nations of Oklahoma, which promotes sovereignty, policy and advocacy on behalf of the state’s tribes.

After implementing the PlatePay system, through which cameras take pictures of license tags on toll roads and motorists without PikePasses are sent bills for their tolls, the OTA looked for the source of leakage in its revenue. It found that the main sources of lost revenue came from motorists without license plates, people with plates that are covered and people with tribal tags issued by nations other than the Choctaw and Chickasaw. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lily Gladstone knows the gravity stories about what she calls the “epidemic” of missing and murdered Indigenous people have. But she also values humor in telling those stories.

In “Fancy Dance,” set for a limited theatrical release Friday and streaming release on Apple TV+ June 28, Gladstone plays Jax, who has cared for her niece, Roki, since her sister’s disappearance on the Seneca-Cayuga reservation in Oklahoma. As the pair searches for their loved one and prepares for Roki’s upcoming powwow, they share moments of unexpected levity baked into the emotional story. READ MORE. — Associated Press

CHEROKEE, N.C. (AP) — The recreational sale and use of marijuana for adults on western North Carolina tribal land could begin this summer after the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians governing board voted for an ordinance expanding approved use just weeks after its medical marijuana dispensary opened.

Several months earlier, tribe members backed adult recreational use on their reservation. The September referendum, approved by 70% of voters, also required the council to develop legislation to regulate such a market. Tribal leaders spent months crafting the adult-use ordinance approved Thursday by an 8-2 vote. READ MORE — Associated Press
